Meet Emma

I started playing golf at the age of 10, inspired by my dad and brother. As a keen sportsperson, I picked the game up quickly (much to my brother’s dismay!), and before long, golf became a huge part of my life.

At 14, I was offered a golf scholarship to Loretto School in Musselburgh, Scotland, which allowed me to fully commit to developing my game. During this time, I competed extensively around the UK as part of the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association Junior and Women’s Squads, gaining invaluable experience at a high-performance level.

After finishing school, I knew I wanted a career centred around sport. I went on to study Applied Sports Science (BSc Hons) at The University of Edinburgh, majoring in Sports Medicine and Sports Biomechanics. While at university, I represented Great Britain & Ireland at the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand, and won the Scottish Universities Championships multiple times during my four years of study.

I turned professional in 2010 after many years of competitive golf. My first Assistant Professional role was at the prestigious Gullane Golf Club in Scotland - an Open Qualifying venue and former Scottish Open venue. During my five years at Gullane, I completed my PGA Degree in Professional Golf, qualifying as Leading Trainee in Scotland for all three years and finishing Runner-Up in the UK PGA Trainee of the Year Awards in 2013. At the same time, I competed on the Tartan Tour, with one of my career highlights being qualifying for the Scottish PGA Championships in 2014 at Gleneagles - I was only the second woman ever to qualify for the event.

By this stage, my passion for coaching had really taken hold, particularly in junior development. I became heavily involved with Scottish Golf, working across several initiatives, including coaching the Under-15 Scottish Development Centre (East Region) and working as a ClubGolf Coach.

In 2014, I decided it was time for a new adventure and made the move to Auckland, New Zealand, where my brother lives. I was offered a role facilitating Junior Development Programmes at The Institute of Golf, working closely with Craig Dixon and Guy Wilson, former coaches of Lydia Ko, a former World Number 1. Over my four years at IOG, I learned an incredible amount from these highly successful coaches and had the opportunity to work with some of New Zealand’s top amateur golfers across all age groups.

I’ve now been in New Zealand for 12 years, am a permanent resident, and am married to a Kiwi. My love for New Zealand goes well beyond golf - I’m passionate about the outdoors, staying active, and living a balanced lifestyle. You’ll usually find me hiking or in the water, so when the opportunity came up to live and work north of Auckland in the Rodney area, I jumped at it. I now live in Snells Beach with my husband, Luke, who is also an NZPGA Professional, our one-year-old daughter Kaia, and (I can’t forget!) Frankie, our Bordoodle.

On a day-to-day basis, my focus is supporting the needs of members at our local golf clubs, and I continue to be deeply committed to junior development, with a strong belief that positive early experiences shape lifelong golfers. With my background in sports science and as a PG Strong Level 1 Coach, I take a holistic approach to coaching that supports sustainable physical development alongside skill progression - helping players stay healthy, enjoy their golf, and remain active club members for years to come.

I’m also incredibly passionate about growing the game for women, and creating environments where women feel comfortable, supported, and confident - whether they’re picking up a club for the first time or looking to take their golf to the next level. I understand that golf can feel intimidating, and my coaching focuses on breaking down those barriers and making the game welcoming, social, and genuinely enjoyable.

‘‘Emma keeps it simple and easy. Comes highly recommended.’’

Shelley Good

I have been a client of Emma’s for over 3 years and I really look forward to my regular on course lessons and online catch ups. Emma’s enthusiastic and professional approach to improving her clients’ golf game, from the pure mechanics through to mental game improvement and fitness, I have found has improved not just my handicap but perhaps even more importantly my enjoyment of this wonderful but at times frustrating game. Emma offers a great blend of technical assistance from the use of specialist software, statistical analysis of my performance, and of course her vast knowledge and experience from her life as a golf professional. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to improve their skills and enjoyment of the game.

My lessons from Emma have helped me gain confidence in executing the shot I want to make. From my thought process to my shot process. I found her instructions very easy to understand and to implement...

I met Emma after returning to golf after 15 years of family life... Emma focuses on the whole game. I would recommend Emma to anyone who like me loves the game but at the time the game doesn’t love them. Getting to the course and understanding and executing with consistency is a great feeling.
